Testing Carlquistian hypotheses on the functional significance of vessel element length

چکیده
Summary While total vessel length is widely recognized as being of fundamental functional significance, opinion more divided regarding the potential importance element length, a variable that Sherwin Carlquist regarded functionally significant. We show can, predicted, affect resistance to deformation. Perforation plates are locally thickened annuli, so tubes with annuli resist deformation better than those without, and closely-spaced distantly spaced ones. However, there tradeoff between conductance. With comparative analysis across 1000 species angiosperms, we both areas individual inter-conduit pits scale positively diameter. Such covariation expected if plants maintain conductance they grow taller. Congruent Carlquist’s thinking, found elements exceptionally short tend in drylands, whereas long moist climates. Finally, evidence suggesting selection on an important determinant imperforate tracheary length. Conversely, for affecting appears be weaker. These results seem sufficient establish that, whatever significance its own right, congruent long-held views.

in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...

The problem of testing fuzzy hypotheses in the presence of vague data is considered. A new method based on the necessity index of strict dominance (NSD) is suggested. An example hoe to apply the proposed test in statistical quality control is shown.
متن کاملFormulating and testing hypotheses in functional genomics
OBJECTIVE The ultimate goal of any genome-scale experiment is to provide a functional interpretation of the results, relating the available genomic information to the hypotheses that originated the experiment. METHODS AND RESULTS Initially, this interpretation has been made on a pre-selection of relevant genes, based on the experimental values, followed by the study of the enrichment in some ...

15 صفحه اولAn adaptive significance threshold criterion for massive multiple hypotheses testing
This research deals with massive multiple hypothesis testing. First regarding multiple tests as an estimation problem under a proper population model, an error measurement called Erroneous Rejection Ratio (ERR) is introduced and related to the False Discovery Rate (FDR). ERR is an error measurement similar in spirit to FDR, and it greatly simplifies the analytical study of error properties of m...
